I’ve learned to listen, to ask a lot of questions and first understand the particular needs and wants of an advisor. Once I understand where they are in their work life and what they ultimately want to achieve, I then suggest opportunities that best fit and match their particular situation. The key is to focus on the advisor and then the client firm or opportunity that best serves that advisors needs.”

Current Position: Regional Director with Willis Consulting in our Scottsdale, AZ office. Responsibilities include establishing and executing specific marketing plans to ensure the most appropriate potential Financial Advisors and other wealth management professionals are sourced to meet our client’s particular opportunities and needs. Additionally, David reaches out to and prides himself on building long-term personal relationships with individual Financial Advisors, CFPs, and other wealth management professionals throughout the U.S. to provide personalized career and practice transition guidance and counsel within the wealth management industry.

Strengths:

  • Inquisitive
  • Credible
  • Trustworthy

I know I’ve done a good job when an advisor and the client or firm with whom he or she partners are both happy about the outcome and excited about the future business relationship. I often get calls from advisors I’ve helped in the past or advisors I’ve worked with and did not move. They’ll often call me on behalf of a friend, or call to inquire about a particular development in the business or just to get up to speed on what’s new or different in the industry from a recruiting perspective. I consider such calls and inquiries a compliment and validation that I’ve built a trusting and credible relationship as a recruiter.

Career History: David joined Willis Consulting in 2007 after an 18 year career as a leader as well as Regional Executive in the Financial Services, Banking and Mortgage industry with HSBC and Accredited. Given his depth of experience, he understands the complexities of the financial markets, as well as the special relationship Financial Advisors work hard to build with their clients. David attended Weber State University and is a graduate of the AFSA Executive Leadership Program at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler School of Business in Chapel Hill, NC.

Additional Information: David and his family enjoy calling the Scottsdale, AZ area home. When he’s not at work, he’s busy with his sons who are very involved in Scouting, outdoor activities and sports.

I often ask my clients about their families, their kids, what they do for fun, sports, etc. I find that at my age, and with my kids now ranging from elementary school through high school, we have much in common. I’ve also found that advisors at any level of their career have great stories to tell and most like to share one here and there. Asking a question like “how did you get in this business anyway?” or “How have you experienced such success?” or the like often helps me better understand how a particular advisor thinks and what motivates them.
